The newly passed law on the modernization of citizenship law will lead to a number of changes.
One of these is that the application procedure for retaining German citizenship under Section 25 (2) of the Citizenship Act (StAG) will no longer apply.
Another option would be for Germans to be able to take on several nationalities. In an effort to allow foreigners to acquire German citizenship, this process could be made two-way so that Germans are also given the opportunity to acquire citizenships of other countries.
