The Visas

Foreigners usually opt for one of these three most popular visas:

The Retirement Visa

This visa allows people over the age of 50 to live in the country long-term, provided all criteria are met.

It can be applied for before entering Thailand or after entering with a tourist visa or exemption visa stamp.

The retiree visa allows you to stay in Thailand for 15 months when you first apply, after which you can renew it every 12 months.

Extensions are possible for life.

The Education Visa (ED Visa)

This visa allows people over the age of 12 to study full-time in Thailand.

There is no age restriction for applying for this visa; this means that you can get the visa even if you are over school age, as long as all requirements are met.

It requires enrollment at a school or university. The visa is issued for 90 days and can be extended 3 times (12 months in total).

The Elite Visa

This visa allows individuals to stay in Thailand for 5, 10, 15 or 20 years.

The former elite visa is now called Privilege Entry visa “PE” and offers 4 membership packages (previously 7 packages).

Gold Membership – 5 years
Platinum Membership – 10 years
Diamond Membership – 15 years
Reserve by invitation only – 20 years

It is still a tourist visa and you are not allowed to work in Thailand.

Even though you can stay for several years on this visa, the requirement for the 90-day notification remains, but the good thing here is that all membership packages are multiple entries (you don’t need a re-entry visa if you travel abroad).
